A messy, cluttered, and unclean home can really get you down, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you simply can’t keep it any other way than a mess.
If you’re constantly battling a home that refuses to stay clean, the following 5 handy habits might be worth adopting if you want to do something about it:
- Get every member of the household to help
Gone are the days of cleaning being simply women’s work; nowadays, everyone could, and should help keep the home they live in, clean and clutter-free. Even small children can quickly learn to put things away when they’ve finished with them, and when they get a bit older, most are more than capable of helping with a variety of simpler chores. As for the adults you share a home with, they literally have no excuse! But unlike small children, they shouldn’t need to be rewarded for helping!
If it helps, you can create a list of chores and stick it up on the fridge so that everyone can choose one to complete and tick off.
- Make cleaning a habit
By doing small cleaning and tidying chores around the home every day, it doesn’t take long for these to become a habit. Once a habit is formed, it’s unlikely that you’ll neglect them. Set an example in your home by cleaning up as you go along and putting things back where they came from, and before you know it, other members of the household might well start doing the same. Fingers crossed!
- Seek professional help
If your home is too dirty and messy for you to even know where to begin and you’re feeling overwhelmed, it might be better for your stress levels to hire a cleaning company to come in and get you started. Even if you choose a one-off clean, you’ll likely find that the experience was so worth it that you want to book it on a regular basis, easing your stress levels and giving you more time, all day every day.
- Make your bed first thing
You’d be surprised how making the bed as soon as you get out of it, can help set you on the right path for the day, and aside from making your bedroom look tidier, it will motivate you to achieve the same results, everywhere in your home. Encouraging your kids to do the same can be helpful, too, and after all, everyone enjoys getting into a properly made bed at night.
- Declutter
It’s really important to try and get rid of anything in your home that doesn’t belong there, or which you no longer need or want. Not only can clutter affect your mental health and add to your stress levels and anxiety, but it makes cleaning take a whole lot longer, too. With more items gathering dust, there’s more to clean, and constantly having to move items out of the way while you clean, can be incredibly frustrating and time consuming.
At the end of the day, a clean home benefits everyone who lives in it, and by following the helpful hints above, you can achieve a clean home, and keep it that way for longer.
